Panic ensued when a 19-year-old woman was suddenly strangled by a fellow passenger inside a jeepney around 9:30 AM on February 10, 2025, in Barangay Bago Aplaya, Davao City.
The victim, identified as "Lyza," a 19-year-old employee, was on her way to work when the suspect, "Renz," a 26-year-old man, suddenly approached and strangled her for an unknown reason.
According to circulating videos of the incident, the woman immediately called for help from other passengers. Bystanders in Barangay Ulas quickly intervened, rescuing the victim and beating up the suspect to help her escape.

The suspect is now in police custody. Investigations revealed that the man was suffering from depression after his wife passed away, leaving him jobless and struggling to care for their two children. He is now facing charges of physical injury.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) also clarified that, contrary to initial reports, there was no hostage-taking involved in the incident.
