Do ‘Virginity Soaps’ Really Tighten a Woman’s Private Area?

As women go through childbirth and aging, certain parts of their bodies may change permanently—one of which is the vaginal area. In an attempt to restore tightness, some women turn to so-called "virginity soaps." But are these products truly effective and safe to use?

“During childbirth, the hammock-like muscles that support the lower part of the body may experience breakage due to the baby’s head passing through,” explained Dr. Hannah Maclang-Soliman, an obstetrician-gynecologist, in an episode of Pinoy MD.

She further elaborated, “In most cases, these muscles do not return to their original state due to the damage. Additionally, as women age, the collagen that holds these structures together weakens, causing changes in the area.”

While some women opt for medical procedures such as vaginal tightening, others look for more affordable alternatives—like "virginity soaps." This was the case for 24-year-old Ana (not her real name).

“I wanted to maintain a good relationship with my partner, so I decided to try a tightening soap,” Ana shared.

After using the product, Ana claimed she noticed its effects almost immediately.

“My boyfriend told me my private area smelled nice and that it felt tighter,” she recalled, having used the soap for two years.

According to Dr. Soliman, vaginal tightening soaps often contain menthol, which creates a cooling sensation, and fragrances to enhance the vaginal scent.

Many women experience dryness as they age, so these oils provide moisture and smoothness,” she explained.

However, despite the temporary firming and cooling effect, Dr. Soliman clarified that virginity soaps do not actually tighten the vaginal muscles.

“These products do not contain any ingredient capable of tightening muscles. Menthol, for instance, works similarly to facial toners, creating a cooling effect that may give the illusion of tightness,” she said.

She advised consumers to ensure that any soap they use is registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to guarantee safety.

For women seeking vaginal tightening, there are both non-surgical and surgical options, such as high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatments.

“Our bodies naturally change over time, and we should learn to embrace these transformations. In relationships and marriage, happiness isn’t about tightness or size—it’s about emotional connection, respect, communication, and mutual understanding,” said parenting and relationship specialist Maribel Dionisio.

Dr. Soliman also reminded women to check product ingredients to avoid potential allergies. Additionally, FDA approval can be easily verified online to ensure the product’s safety.
