Senate President Chiz Escudero announced that the Senate expects to spend less than ₱1 million on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Escudero clarified that this estimate does not include legal fees, as the Senate plans to hire external lawyers and law firms. However, these arrangements have yet to be finalized.
“Excluding lawyer fees, because we plan to engage the services of some practicing lawyers and law firms—although this has not been finalized yet—I believe our expenses will not exceed ₱1 million,” Escudero stated.Escudero: Senate Allocates Less Than ₱1M for Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial

The estimated budget covers:
Robes for senator-judges (priced at approximately ₱6,000 to ₱8,000 each, with each judge receiving two)
Identification cards for visitors
Honoraria
Escudero also noted that existing Senate resources, such as tables, electricity, air conditioning, and water, will be used to keep additional costs minimal.
“Legal fees are not included yet, but for basic preparations—such as tables, electricity, air conditioning, and water—there won’t be additional expenses since we already use these for morning sessions and committee hearings,” he added.
